表面の凹凸で肌に触れる面積が小さく通気性に優れています。平編みと比較すると横方向への伸縮性が少なく型崩れしにくい素材です。表と裏が同じ見た目で、端が丸まりにくいため、扱いやすい素材です。夏にはポロシャツの素材として定番の鹿子ですが、冬物のニットセーターなどにも使われています。
